Oct 18th 2016 one year ago a begun LA Folklorama in 2015 , a way to commemorate the event i was Invited to a Chinese Opera at the Dolby Theater by professor Rosalyn Kahn the event was almost private and the costumes were impeccable.
The play took time to build up the the best part I had got sucked in and i felt the wows and worry of the death of a child as a father I could have related to the idea of the worst tyrant a evil sadistic baster, the teleprompter set up was good to follow up on the story for us who did not understand Chinese, in my opinion as I have no understanding of it roots and culture .
I found it interesting how the expression was followed by sounds and aided comical gesture something like a cartoonist puppet-tearing scenes “Ho I have a thought” (Doing ) let’s walk to the next town and kill the pigs who did this !!(off we go ? traalala!! parapoom – pttish Zappp???) sounds were added to the story with melody that capture the imagination . At one point the story choked me and so did the audience I begun to cry to the wailing of the Actor Gongsun Chujiu and the sound made it real it came out of now were and intrigued me as I sobbed in my chair with Mia Simion in support she patted me on my back to calm down I was remembering my pain of the lost years on my daughters now 25 and 24 never to have known what is to have a Father, self pity was shameful bothering me and I bonded with the story it was good therapy for me.
I’m thankful to the Producers / Lynn Tang and Li Shu Jian for this opportunity to cross the border with this innovation play.
